SYMBOLISM OF TIME

When Gérald Genta’s Octo Finissimo design encounters the pared-down inspiration of architect Tadao Ando! These collection pieces are intended for the Japanese market.

Playing on shapes and volumes, using state-of-the-art materials… there’s a great deal in common between Tadao Ando and Bvlgari’s approaches! The Japanese architect has gained worldwide acclaim through his achievements which focus on the movement known as critical regionalism and by playing on materials and light. This approach enchanted the Italian brand which gave him free rein to imagine the dials of the two limited editions bearing his name. The Octo Finissimo Tadao Ando timepieces feature a sapphire-crystal caseback emblazoned with his signature.

Through this graphical design, Tadao Ando wished to evoke the neverending passing of time. The hands which hover over this pared down décor are driven by a self-winding movement which nestles in a 40 mm-diameter, 5.15 mm-ultra-slim case.

Here, the regulating device is perceived as a black hole. Like rippling waves on water, the movement of the lines tends towards infinity. This symbolic representation of eternity is embraced in a 42 mm-diameter carbon case which protects the self-winding movement which hosts the slimmest flying tourbillon in the world. The timepiece is complemented by a bracelet fashioned in the same material as the case.
