OVERSEAS MOON PHASE RETROGRADE DATE Vacheron Constantin

FUNCTIONAL ELEGANCE

Watches & Wonders Geneva 2023 recently came to a close. During the trade show, the manufacturer introduced the first retrograde display in its sporty-chic range.

For the first time in its collection of sports watches featuring a modernized design since 2016, Vacheron Constantin is introducing an original date display with the model Overseas Moon Phase Retrograde Date. As its name implies, a hand points to a semicircular scale positioned under an hour rim composed only of markers. Without the numbers, the date becomes easy to read. The omnipresent Super-LumiNova® coating on the hands and main markers further enhances legibility. On the translucent, deep blue dial, an aperture highlights the moon phases. A specially engineered mechanism, consisting of, among other things, a 135-tooth wheel, ensures that the phases of our satellite are displayed with, according to the manufacturer, “a variance between the mechanism and the true lunar cycle of only one day over a period of 122 years”.

The elegant 41mm-diameter steel case with its iconic hexagonal bezel holds the caliber 2460 R31L/2, assembled using 275 components. This self-winding movement delivers 40 hours of power reserve. Its precision is further enhanced by the inclusion of a soft iron case band that provides effective protection against the negative effects of magnetism. Thanks to the sapphire back, the gold oscillating weight can be seen. Whether the wristband is fashioned in steel, calf leather, or coordinated rubber, it can be replaced in a flash thanks to the practical interchangeability system. In this way, the sporty chic spirit endures!
