On October 31, 2008, a certain Satoshi Nakamoto announced to the cypherpunk community that he was finalizing a peer-to-peer digital currency. A year later, the first bitcoin block was mined. The value of the cryptocurrency on October 5, 2009 peaked at… $0.001. By November 2021, its price reached new heights, exceeding $68,500. Since then, its exchange rate has been fluctuating unpredictably. Be that as it may, its arrival on the financial landscape also brought blockchain technology to the forefront, a revolution in itself. To celebrate this new era, Jacob & Co is paying tribute to the technology with the Astronomia Solar Bitcoin watch.
This model features all the characteristics of the Astronomia Tourbillon. Or nearly! While the off-centered hour and minute disc and the symmetrically positioned regulating organ moving on two axes, one rotating on a minute, the second on a 10-minute period, can still be found, the black and gold aesthetic is decidedly futuristic. To that end, the watch’s visible plate, created by the absence of a dial and the openings in the panoramic case middle, sets the tone. The plate takes on the appearance of a printed circuit board on which are engraved the key words of the bitcoin universe. Moreover, this rotates continuously in a counterclockwise direction. The hand-wound caliber comes in a 44mm diameter black diamond light coating (DLC) titanium case without a crown. Two arches positioned on either side of the case replace it. In addition to a central globe, a 288-faceted orange citrine represents the sun while a 1-carat white diamond represents the moon. This dreamscape can, understandably, be acquired using a cryptocurrency via Bitpay.
