Since 2005, every model that has been added to the Tradition collection has something in common: the movement workings are center staged above the disc. This highly-original presentation, as such, breathes a one-of-a-kind personality into each model in the range, a pure harmony of the manufacture’s iconic savoir-faire and esthetics. The Tradition Seconde Rétrograde 7097 unveiled for the first time back in 2015 is no exception to the rule and the same holds true for the Boutique Edition version. Bridges, wheels, escapement and barrel are therefore visible beside the time data. The hours and minutes are displayed with Breguet’s signature hollow moon-tip hands in a magnificent off-centered blue dial at 12 o’clock enhanced with a “Clous de Paris” guilloché engraving finish. On top, we discover an hour chapter comprising Roman numerals. At 10 o’clock, the retrograde small second hand moves along a semi-circular scale. Symmetrically-opposite, at 4 o’clock, and for the sake of visual harmony, the “pare-chute” reigns supreme. This shock protection system which protects the balance-staff is one of watchmaker Abraham-Louis Breguet’s greatest inventions, which he imagined around 1790. This system is the forefather of modern-day anti-shock systems.
All the visible mechanical elements are part of the 505SR1 caliber. This self-winding movement is equipped with a gold oscillating weight perpetuating the style of historic timepieces. This device is however totally up-to-the-minute with its escapement and silicon hairspring. Once fully wound, it delivers a minimum 50 hours’ power reserve to the watch.
The 40 mm-diameter white gold case of this timepiece available in Breguet boutiques is complemented by a classical blue leather strap.
