OVERSEAS SELF-WINDING HIGH JEWELLERY Vacheron Constantin

DIAMONDS MAKE PRECIOUS GRAPHICS

The different stone sizes and setting techniques come together in a monochrome monologue to highlight the geometry of these two new gold pieces from the Geneva-based manufacturer.

It was during the last decades of the 19th century that Vacheron Constantin embraced the tradition of jewelry, making it its own and integrating it into its mechanical expertise in the service of time. However, unlike its contemporaries, who prioritized jewelry over watches, the Geneva-based watchmaking company did not use stones as “mere” adornments, but rather as a true graphic language, a composition that delineates or emphasizes geometry. This philosophy of functional aesthetics is reflected in many of the manufacture’s creations, notably in the duo of new Overseas Automatic High Jewellery watches powered by the 1088/1 caliber.

Relaunched in 2016, the sporty-looking collection introduced a model seven years later with compact dimensions, ideal for the most refined wrists and lovers of vintage horology: 34mm in diameter and, in the case of this pair, 8.43mm thick. The case, crafted in rose gold or white gold, is topped with a fixed hexagonal bezel, a stylized reinterpretation of the Maltese cross, the symbol of Vacheron Constantin, modernized by the presence of 60 diamonds set using the invisible setting technique. Their baguette cut creates a sense of movement and dynamism, while contrasting with the brilliant cut and snow setting of the gems scattered across the lugs of the case and the links of the bracelet. The dial features the same striking configuration, with the roundness of the stones covering the disc and the slender silhouette of the hour markers.
