VAN CLEEF & ARPELS – Lady Arpels Peau d’Âne Forêt enchantée
“Who was this admirable nymph who lived in a farmyard at the bottom of an obscure hall way where daylight never penetrated, he wondered”, wrote Charles Perrault (1628-1708) in 1694 in one of his most popular fairy tales, Donkey Skin. Van Cleef & Arpels has reinterpreted this magical story of a slovenly princess and prince charming on the dial of the self-winding Lady Arpels Peau d’Âne Forêt enchantée. A variety of techniques has been used to showcase the natural setting with our heroine’s famous cabin in the background: gem-setting, sculpture, engraving and miniature painting. Shrubbery and foliage are in emerald and tsavorite garnet, the stream glitters with blue sapphires and diamonds whilst the two robins’ red breasts glow with spessartite garnets. Decorative features such as the tree trunks, deer, cabin and rocks are engraved in white or yellow gold. Price on request. Sharmila Bertin
