AUTOBAHN NEOMATIK 41 DATE
Equipped with a new self-winding calibre made by Nomos, the Autobahn Neomatik 41 Date model attracts the eye with its domed dial and a design and colour unmistakably recalling the dashboard of a car.
German motorways are famous for their absence of speed limits, so there’s no need to speak the language of Goethe to know what “autobahn“ means. This is the uncommon name chosen by Nomos, the brand from Saxony that stands out through the pure design of their watches, for their new model, the Autobahn Neomatik 41 Date. And like any self-respecting motorway, the watch has three lanes in three different colours.
Strongly inspired by the speedometer on the dashboard of a modern car, the dial on the Autobahn Neomatik 41 Date guides the eye towards a thick semi-circle extending from 8 to 4 o’clock. It is divided into eight sectors and is coated in klein blue, light grey or opaline white Super-LumiNova®, depending on the version, with a blue glow. Above the dial turn two slender stick-shaped and contemporary hands, which are also phosphorescent; one is immaculate white, electric orange or sky blue, for the hour, while the minute hand is white with an orange tip. This dynamic tone is repeated on the second hand in a sub-dial at 6 o’clock.
To evoke the feeling of speed, the Nomos designers have come up with a domed dial and added a hour rim featuring four Arabic even numbers. The same long typography is used for the minute track running around the chapter ring. At 6 o’clock, under the seconds sub-dial, a wide counter shows today’s, yesterday’s and tomorrow’s date.
The 41mm-wide steel case houses the German brand’s new automatic movement, the calibre DUW6101. The mechanism, providing 42 hours of power reserve, can be seen through the sapphire caseback.
