LAURENT FERRIER x URWERK – ARPAL+ ONE ONLY WATCH 2017
TWO HEADS ARE BETTER THAN ONE
Here’s a surprising collaboration from two completely different watchmakers who have joined forces for a single cause, the battle against Duchenne muscular dystrophy, embodied by this unique timepiece.
On the one hand you have Laurent Ferrier, the specialist in traditional and classic watches famous for its so-called “pebble” cases and spear-shape hands on the dials. On the other hand, you have the radical duo behind Urwerk, Martin Frei and Felix Baumgartner, whose unusual and statement designs have made their mark on contemporary watchmaking. Two totally different visions of the industry, a mutual passion for artisan production and a single cause, Only Watch where the funds raised by the auction on November 11th will go towards the battle against Duchenne muscular dystrophy. This surprising collaboration has brought about a unique piece called Arpal+ One Only Watch 2017.
The curvy case brings to mind vintage racing car bodies, a world that Laurent Ferrier knows well. Crafted from mirror polished Arpal+ (a new iron alloy that’s highly resistant to wear, tarnishing, rust and scratches), this soft and smooth case is almost 41mm wide by 61mm long with an oblong winding crown deep in the ribbing.
The U-shape sapphire crystal covering the top of the Arpal+ One Only Watch 2017 gives you a glimpse of the self-winding mechanical movement designed by Urwerk. The UR5.03 calibre has a double turbine, a frequency of 4Hz (28,800 vph) and a 48-hour power reserve. The movement is coated in a subtle grey hue that’s midway between pearl and steel with four satellites protected by an engine-turned bonnet in PEEK (Poly Ether Etherketone) each with three markers that parade along the minute rail. onlywatch.com
