Ovi, the “Great Eight”, the nicknames of one of the world’s most formidable ice hockey players, add a touch of bespokeness to this series boasting technical and stylistic character that’s just as powerful as the champion’s.
Following his first games which were outstanding to say the least, Alexander Mikhailovich Ovechkin honed his skills with Dynamo Moscow, then joined the prestigious NHL, National Hockey League of Canada and the United States in 2004. Since then, his track record just keeps getting better. Incidentally, he’s the first-ever player to have scored 700 goals during his career. To celebrate these extraordinary results, Hublot has dedicated to the sportsman, Friend of the Brand, a 100-piece limited edition bearing his name. The Big Bang Unico Red Carbon Alex Ovechkin stands out from the crowd with its omnipresent red, obviously. The chronograph dial also boasts tips of the hat to the sports celebrity. The 8 is replaced by the logo of his jersey. The tip of the direct-drive features the colors of the Russian flag and of his team, the Washington Capitals.
The skeletonized time data display scenescape reigns in a 45 mm-diameter carbon fiber case. The presence of carmine micro-glass fibers forms a pattern making each piece unique.
The hour and minute hands as well as time measurement are driven by the MHUB1241 caliber. This automatic movement equipped with a flyback function delivers great autonomy to the watch: 72 hours.
Two straps, easily interchangeable thanks to the One-Click attach system, are proposed with the timepiece in its presentation case. One is fashioned in red textile, the other in black rubber. Both are attached by a folding clasp. What’s more, a hockey puck signed by the champion is included in the watch box. This signature also features on the caseback.
